U.S. whiskey drinkers have a new official category to call their own: American Single Malt Whiskey.
For years, single malt has been produced in America but not defined and protected in regulations as it has been in nations around the world, most specifically in Scotland. Following a years-long campaign by the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission, the latest ruling issued by the U.S. Government’s Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau (TTB) now establishes the category’s unique standards of identity.
“This is a landmark ruling by TTB and validation for years’ worth of work by American distillers to define American Single Malt,” Steve Hawley, President of the Commission, said in a news release. “It has been over 52 years since a new type of whiskey was added to our federal regulations. We applaud TTB for formalizing the category which will signal to the world that not only do we believe in and support our own distilleries, but we also recognize that American Single Malt Whiskey is unique and deserves to be defined and protected as other American whiskey categories are.
“Most importantly, this new definition ensures that consumers worldwide can have every confidence that what they think is in a bottle of American Single Malt Whiskey actually is.”

LOCATION MATTERS
Located in Statesville, North Carolina, a town with a big role in bourbon’s history. Before Prohibition, Statesville was known as the “Liquor Capital of the World”. With a 20-acre campus housing a state-of-the-art 36,000 square foot distillery, you can build and support your brands with the highest quality bourbons and ryes. We diligently watch over the 65,000 barrels aging in our rickhouses, eager to match them with the right partner.

Receiving top ratings, reviews, and accolades from the esteemed voices in bourbon the products crafted at Stateville Distilling Company include awards such as the 2022 win for Southern Star Paragon Wheated Bourbon Single Barrel at the New York World Spirits Competition; Best Single Barrel & Best Bourbon Overall. More importantly, ask any of the 140 clients such as Fred Minnick’s Ascot Double Platinum awarded Ponfeigh Westylvania Rye and the newly released SFWSC Gold medal winning Brother’s Bond Regenerative Grain Bourbon.
STATE-OF-THE ART CAMPUS
The state-of-the-art fermentation and distillation systems allow us to consistently create the high-quality spirits customers and clients demand. The rickhouses today contain 65,000 barrels of aging bourbons, ryes, and American single malts, aged up to 7 years. The extensive aged barrel inventory paired with a new fill program, provides both unmatched product continuity and an unparalleled opportunity to create a unique and distinct blend.
SUSTAINABILITY & REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE
Ensuring full-circle sustainability, more than 80% of the grain is grown using regenerative agriculture in partnership with local Piedmont-region farmers. All spent grains and water from the distillation process is returned to local farms for use as cattle feed and fertilizer.
CONSISTENCY & INDUSTRY PARTNERS
You gain access to the on-site analytics lab which continuously tests the liquid to ensure optimal products for every client. We also maintain working relationships with multiple cooperages to ensure an uninterrupted supply of barrels, and provide access to reliable suppliers of premium glass, labels, and packaging.
