Where are you located?
We are located in historic Statesville, North Carolina, known as the “liquor capital of the world” before Prohibition.
Are your tours and tasting free?
Our extensive behind-the-scenes tour and tasting costs $15 per person, and lasts approximately one hour with a four-sample tasting at its conclusion. Guests are treated to a comprehensive tour of the cooking, fermenting, distilling and barreling process inside Southern Distilling’s 30,000-square foot facility as well as a deep dive into Statesville’s rich history as the “Liquor Capital of the World”. Discounts applied to seniors 65+ and veterans. Active military and children are free.
Can we just do a tasting?
We offer a variety of tasting flights for purchase.
Are kids allowed on a tour, and are they free?
Everyone under the age of 21 is free.
Can I bring my dog?
Friendly dogs are welcome in our tasting room, however, we are unable to allow pets on tours of our production area.
Can you ship bottles?
North Carolina state law does not allow us to ship bottles directly to consumers. However, our website provides a link on specific product pages to order online via the e-commerce platform Barcart. Products are selective per market and shipping is contingent on each individual state law.
Do you offer snacks? May guests bring their own food?
Yes, guests may bring outside food into our tasting room. In addition to snacks available for purchase, Southern Distilling typically hosts a local food truck on Saturdays. We also have outdoor seating as well.
You’re not in Kentucky, you can’t make Bourbon!?
In order to make bourbon you simply need to follow your ABC’s
A = America, According to H. Con. Res. 57 passed in 1964, Bourbon Whiskey is a distinctive product of the United States.
B = Barrel, Bourbon Whiskey must enter a brand new charred container for one second or more.
C = Corn, The mash bill for Bourbon Whiskey must be 51% or more corn.
Do you offer event rentals?
Our 12,000 square-foot event center, called The Preserve, is available for corporate events. Currently, The Preserve and distillery grounds are not available for wedding rentals. Please contact us at 704.978.7175 for more information.
Can we use the facility for staged event photography?
While we are very proud of the Southern Distilling campus and welcome all guests, due to liabilities we cannot allow professional, staged photography on distillery property. We do, however, welcome traditional guest photography as part of our tour and tasting.
Do you have regulars?
We have a wide range of visitors at Southern Distilling. We are a destination distillery, meaning people travel from all over to visit our facility and taste our award-winning Southern Star bourbons and rye whiskeys. Our prime location in the center of North Carolina, at the junction of I-77 and I-40, welcomes travelers, tourists, town regulars, tour groups, history enthusiasts, social media influencers and bourbon groups alike.
Can guests walk the property?
Of course! Guests are welcome to walk our 20-acre campus as well as visit our herd of miniature donkeys.
Do you do single-barrel picks?
